Craig's suicidal episode gets him checked into a mental hospital, where his new neighbors include a transsexual sex addict, a girl who has scarred her own face with scissors, and the self-elected President Armelio. There, Craig is finally able to confront the sources of his anxiety.

Ned Vizzini, who himself spent time in a psychiatric hospital, has created a remarkably moving tale about the sometimes unexpected road to happiness. For a novel about depression, it's definitely a funny story.

O ambicioso adolescente de Nova York Craig Gilner está determinado a ter sucesso na vida - o que significa entrar no colégio certo para entrar no emprego certo. Mas uma vez que Craig entra na Escola Executiva de Ensino Médio de Manhattan, a pressão se torna insuportável. Ele pára de comer e dormir até que, uma noite, ele quase se mata.

O episódio suicida de Craig faz com que ele seja internado em um hospital psiquiátrico, onde seus novos vizinhos incluem um transexual viciado em sexo, uma menina que cicatrizou seu próprio rosto com uma tesoura e o presidente Armélio, eleito por ele mesmo. Lá, Craig finalmente consegue confrontar as fontes de sua ansiedade.

Ned Vizzini, que passou um tempo em um hospital psiquiátrico, criou uma história incrivelmente tocante sobre o caminho às vezes inesperado para a felicidade.Apesar de ser uma obra sobre depressão,o autor consegue abordar o assunto de forma leve e engraçada.

 👍Recomendamos para estudantes de inglês a partir  do nível B1 mas, os de nível A2, com um vocabulário razoável, também podem conseguir lê-lo  em inglês, sem grandes problemas com o vocabulário.
